About me

Hi I’m George I live with my husband Henry and our two children Florence and Fergus and a few Springer Spaniels just outside of Exeter. I’m a mostly self taught blacksmith with many years of experience working as a welder, I always craved the freedom to create metal pieces that were individual and beautiful rather than just functional work. I had my chance to start my own blacksmithing business when I had my children and I never looked back. In the last few years I started making “art”. I was lucky enough to be excepted into Stone Lane Art Exhibition in 2022 with a piece called Pearls and Swirls, it was the first time I have had to design a piece that fits a theme and the process was a great experience.

HI I’m George I live just outside Exeter with my husband Henry, and our two children Florence and Fergus and a couple Springer Spaniels.

I’m a mostly self taught, blacksmith who worked for many years as a welder. When I had my children, I had my chance to started my own Blacksmithing business and I never looked back. I always craved the freedom to create metal pieces that were beautiful and one of a kind, rather than just functional. In the last few years I started expanding my range and making “art”. I have recently join the South West Sculptors and I’m looking forward to being able to showcase more of my artwork.

I get a great deal of enjoyment out of my work. Combining the traditional skills of blacksmithing with my imagination’s ideas for the hot metal excites me. I love working on commissioned peices for clients. I get to interpret their ideas and bring them to life in the metal. At times I find myself challenged; the material doesn’t always behave as I wish it would. But in spite of the challenges, I love every minute working at the hot forge. I take inspiration from the natural beauty around me and try to create movement and lightness in a solid material. I feel there is a femininity in my work which balances the masculinity of the ridged metal. I’m continually refining and finessing my skills, often branching out into different styles as I see details in things around, that inspire me. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating for you.
